Visual and Advertisement

Visual Arts and In-game Avertisment
Art has played a major impact on today’s video games. It all started with a black screen and two white cubes that managed to entertain both youth and adult. Art in video games has not only increased in value, but has managed to open up many other art forms along the way, making the games much more compelling and more interesting that older games like Pong. The gaming industry has managed to sky rocket in popularity and at the same time has done a lot for the youth besides clinching their boredom. It has managed to open up more than 200 American colleges that have majors in many different art majors that wouldn’t even matter if gaming systems were still limited to such graphics as Pong. Art has also managed to wriggle its way into the cinematic industry with amazing details to graphics and has even been able to reproduce a person into films through a computer that looks almost identical to the real person itself such as the characters in the new Beowulf movie. However, visual arts aren’t the only impact that video games have managed to effect, musical arts are just as key to the gaming as that of visual. Music in games has effectively added the right mood in situations and with out the creepy back ground music, a horror video game wouldn’t seem so scary.
With every great game, comes advertisement. Statistics from Nielsen Media Research shows that over seventy-five million dollars were sent in 2006 just on advertisement in video games, and they are predicting that to increase to one billion dollars in just 2010. Static advertisement blatantly shows you what the game is advertising usually in the form of a virtual billboard or in some graphic that manages to stay roughly the same, with out changing much, if even at all. However, with today’s technology Dynamic advertisement in video games has been able to allow advertising businesses change their advertisement, allowing it to change as the hours in the game do, or even by the location. Advergaming lets the player try the game before actually having to pay for the game, so that they know that they are buying before they actually pay for it.
